All About Us

Kevin was born in 1969 in Middletown, New York and his family later moved to New Hartford, Connecticut. Cami was born in 1970 in Nairobi, Kenya, to AIM missionary parents and grew up in the Midwest and South Florida. Both of us became Christians as young children and went on missions trips as teens. By the time we each headed off to college, we each had decided to dedicate our lives to missions.

We met at Nyack College in New York and fell in love. After a college missions trip to Gabon, Africa, confirmed that that we could work together on the missions field, we married in the summer of 1992.

We worked to pay off our college debts, then joined Africa Inland Mission and started raising support to go out to Namibia, in southwestern Africa. We left in 1994 for a two-year term of service in Grootfontein, Namibia, working in the Training In Ministry Outreach (TIMO) program. This program taught us the realities of missionary life and gave us practice in language learning and cross-cultural adjustment. We worked with youth in the teen center our team set up. We were able to see where our strengths lay and came back to the US in 1996 to save money for graduate school.

Finally, in 1999 we headed off to Stellenbosch University in South Africa to pursue our graduate degrees. Kevin obtained a Masters of Theology in Missiology (Science of Missions) and Cami got a Masters in Old Testament Translation. Our professors in South Africa really gave us the practical skills that we will need to work in Missions in Africa, and we are so grateful we had the opportunity to study there. Soon, we are hoping to begin a long-term commitment in missions in the African country of Mozambique.

Toby was born on April 25, 2002. He was a lovely suprise who keeps us from being too serious. We are thankful that he is a good-natured little guy who is also a great traveler. He ought to be - he was on 20 different planes through 12 different airports even before he was born, and has been on more than 50 planes through 20 different airports since birth! Baby Tabitha was born on May 5, 2004 and died right after she was born. See her pages for her story. We miss her. Benjamin was added to our little family on March 1, 2006.

Why would we want to be career missionaries? Simply this—we believe that the Gospel has the power to heal and to restore; that there is, in fact, no other hope for mankind. The church in Africa has been described as a mile wide and an inch deep. African church leaders are sorely in need of support people such as ourselves who can come and work with them, train them, and assist them in doctrine, discipleship and a full awareness of His plan. They cannot succeed without the Bible in their own language.

Why Mozambique? We feel that God has called us to Southern Africa, and Mozambique has continually come up over the past couple of years. God has opened doors for us to work there and after Cami's visit there in September 2001, we believe that is where he wants us! We plan to work and live here long-term with our family.
